Sitka

Welcome to Sitka

Your library is part of the Sitka consortium using a shared instance of the integrated library system Evergreen. Not sure if you’re a Sitka library, check our list of current Sitka libraries.

What is Sitka?

Sitka is a growing consortium of more than 100 public, post-secondary, K-12, government and special libraries across Canada.

What is Evergreen?

Evergreen is fully-featured and highly-scalable open source software that helps library users discover resources and helps library staff to manage, catalogue, and circulate those resources, no matter how large or complex the libraries.

When we use the term “Sitka’s Evergreen” we refer to the customized Evergreen software in use by the Sitka consortium.

The BC Libraries Cooperative supports the use of Sitka’s Evergreen with the Chrome browser.

Shared Database

Sitka’s Evergreen has a shared database across all libraries that holds all patron and bibliographic records.

Patron records are not shared between libraries except by opt in between libraries where agreements are in place.

MARC records are shared across the consortium and staff should always ensure Sitka’s cataloguing policies are followed when adding or editing MARC records as changes have the potential to affect more than 100 libraries.

Staff are able to search the staff catalogue for titles at their own library, all libraries in a zone, as well as the entire consortium. Your public catalogue is scoped to search just your own library or your Interlibrary Connect zone so your patrons only see the titles available to them.
